Head Coach Cary Shelton
Cary Shelton enters his third season as the Lady Lion’s Head Women’s Basketball Coach. The 39 year-old Shelton was an assistant coach at Arkansas Pine Bluff for four seasons. Last season he was with the Lady Lion’s, and 3 seasons on the other side with UAPB’s men’s program serving two seasons as the top assistant.
The 2005-06 seasons was a year in which the Golden Lions played in the SWAC Finals against Southern University. Coach Shelton shared the bench that season with current UAPB Head Men's Basketball Coach George Ivory.
Before coming to UAPB in 2005, Shelton was a student manager and a student assistant at Arkansas State University. The 2003-04 season culminated with the programs first ever regular season conference championship and a return to the WNIT.
A 1988 graduate of Star City High School, Shelton was an All-Conference Basketball Player. After a tour in the U.S. Army, he earned his bachelors degree Interdisciplinary Studies from Arkansas State in 2005. Shelton and his wife, Pam, reside in Pine Bluff with their daughters, Erieal, Makla, and son C.J.
